The United World of Wrestling (UWW) published on its website the final ranking of wrestlers before the Olympic Games.

The updated list was compiled taking into account the results of the international tournament “Imre Pauillac and Janos Varga” that took place recently in Budapest.

As previously reported more than once, the seeded participants of the Paris Olympics will be determined based on the rating - the higher the wrestler’s position in the classification, the more favorable the tournament bracket he will receive. Thus, the wrestlers ranked first and fourth in their categories will be placed in the upper part of the brackets and will only be able to meet in the semi-finals. At the same stage, it is possible to meet the second and third numbers, which will be located in the lower parts of the grids.

According to this scheme, one of the most anticipated fights in Paris for Armenian wrestlers will be the match between Arsen Harutyunyan and Zavur Uguev in the quarterfinals. Rei Higuchi will likely meet in the semifinals.

Vazgen Tevanyan leads the ranking in the weight category up to 65 kg. According to the scheme, Vazgen’s opponent in the quarterfinals will be Mongolian Timur Ochir Tulga, and Shamil Mamedov will most likely advance to the semifinals.

In non-Olympic categories, the ranking among Armenians is headed by Arman Andreasyan (70kg)

Let us note that the rating is of a nominal nature and if the seeded wrestlers did not qualify for the Olympics, then they cannot be replaced by another athlete.
